The Belfer Research Building

The Belfer Research Building, designed by Ennead Architects, encompasses 480,000 square feet of space. The building is LEED Gold certified, with daylight responsive shading system and lights that sense and respond to both daylight levels and occupancy. The exterior of the building is enclosed in a double-skinned, glass curtain wall that creates energy efficiency. The interior of the building features laboratory space with transparent walls that allow light to flow freely throughout the floors and allowing visual interaction between the offices of the principle investigators and the laboratory trainees. Each of the thirteen floors devoted to medical research offers areas for study, conference rooms, and a lounge area for meals with white board walls that allow problem solving dialogue  to continue outside of the laboratory space itself. Throughout the building, staircases between floors that join them together to encourage interaction. The architects designed the building with humanity and cross disciplinary dialogue in mind.

Our lab is strategically located giving us easy access to the interactive work space area where you can enjoy your lunch with a view or brainstorm a game-changing idea during a quick bite! Take a look below!

BSL 2 Cell and Tissue Culture Lab

Our lab hosts a 250 sq ft Bio Safety Level 3+ sterile tissue culture room with three Laminar Flow hoods that are annually inspected and certified in accordance with EHS requirements. To complement our lab’s interests in molecular research, we are fully equipped with PCR/qPCR machines and spectrophotometers to perform high throughput assays.

Microscopy Cores

Our lab has access to the shared Confocal microscopy facility at the Belfer Research Building and as the member of the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, we are also provided with access to utilize their microscopy cores.

Fabrication Facility

With equipments such as the Plasma Etcher and Spin coater, our in-house mini-fabrication facility allows us to work on engineering organ-on-a-chip platforms.

Flow Cytometry

The shared Flow cytometry facility - BD FACS Melody and Cytek Aurora are located right across our work space, allowing us to comfortably transition between cell sorting and cell phenotyping. This helps us save time while being able to get quality results!
